John Howard Society

About

The John Howard Society is a registered charity and social service agency with affiliated offices across Canada known for offering a wide range of innovative services within the fields of community justice, social services, health, and public interest issues. Locally, we have operated in the central and south Okanagan for more than 60 years.

Our goal is to understand and respond to underlying issues of crime and to work with people who have come into conflict with the law or are at-risk of being criminalized. Guided by evidence informed practices, a harm reduction lens, and a person-centered approach, we are able to support people from assorted circumstances and needs including, but not limited to, homelessness, mental illness, addiction and developmental disabilities.

We offer a range of innovative programs in the Central and South Okanagan including affordable and supportive housing, employment programs, outreach programs, group activities, and restorative justice.

The work of JHSCSO is possible because of the combined drive and effort of staff and volunteers, interagency collaboration, partnerships with funders, support by the community, and by the amazing and resilient people we serve.
